Thomas Sandner (41), Dipl.-Ing. electrical engineering, CEO

TSFollowing an apprenticeship as electronics specialist for electrical energy equipment at Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft Thomas Sandner commenced his studies of electrical engineering in which he obtained a Bachelor‘s degree (Vordiplom) at the University of Duisburg (Universität Gesamthochschule Duisburg) and a Master’s degree (Diplom) at the University of Aachen (RWTH Aachen), followed by an education as energy consultant. In 1995 he co-founded abakus and has since been one of its managing directors. Thomas has developed abakus’ BIPV business and has driven the company’s expansion into the Asian markets. He is an officially appointed expert for solar power plants (öffentlich bestellter und vereidigter Sachverständiger für Solarstromanlagen) and author of the book “Grid Connected Photovoltaic Power Plants” („Netzgekoppelte Photovoltaikanlagen“, de-Fachbuchreihe Hüthig & Plaum Verlag, 2. Auflage). As of September 1, 2007 Thomas Sandner is Chief Executive Officer of abakus solar AG.

Walter Burscheid (41), Dipl.-Ökonom, CFO

WBAfter graduating in Business Finance and Economics from Ruhr-University Bochum, Walter Burscheid started his career as an Internal Auditor with the Mannesmann Group, a former DAX-30 corporation, where he was in charge of international audit and consulting projects, mainly for the Engineering and Machinery divisions of the group with a focus on US-based and Asian subsidiaries. In 1999 he joined Arcor, a subsidiary of Vodafone Group, the second largest fixed-line and broadband telecommunications operator in Germany, where he held management positions in Controlling and Finance. Before he joined abakus, he was responsible for Financial Accounting, Reporting and Treasury, heading a department of up to 12 accountants and financial analysts. Already during his studies of electrical engineering at the University of Aachen (RWTH Aachen) Heiner Breuer attended to the photovoltaic subjects in various scientific studies and in his graduation thesis. Prior to finishing his studies he co-founded abakus and has since been one of its managing directors. Heiner has developed technical standards for abakus and contributed to expert committees within the photovoltaic industry. The resulting product ideas and process enhancements have always been driven by Heiner’s approach of highest quality and suitability for practical use. Heiner has managed many sophisticated BIPV-projects which always required a constant coordination with other crafts involved in the process. Also, Heiner is spearheading abakus’ effort to implement a quality management programme and to obtain an ISO 9000 certification. Due to his vast experience of successfully managed sophisticated projects Heiner is able to design, plan and implement photovoltaic power plants of all sizes and configurations. As of September 1, 2007 Heiner Breuer is a managing director of abakus solar AG and is responsible for the business segment PV-Projects and Engineering.

Erhard Krausen (55), Dipl.-Ing. electrical engineering, CTO

EKGraduated with diploma in engineering at the Technical University of Cologne, Germany, in 1978. He worked as a project manager for photovoltaic power supply systems at AEG-Telefunken, Hamburg. He then changed to Deutsche Aerospace which later became ASE and SCHOTT Solar Germany as a project manager for hybrid systems (PV/Wind/Biogas). In 1996 Erhard Krausen started at Pilkington Solar
International, the later Flabeg Solar Int. and Scheuten Solar Technology, as a director for project development and project management in the field of BIPV-projects. There he was also involved in the realisation of the first full automated production plant for standard solar modules until he became the Deputy Managing Director of Scheuten Solar in charge of world wide sales and marketing in 2003.
In 2005, Erhard Krausen joined abakus being responsible for the strategic company development and the establishment of the joint venture in Taiwan. On September 1, 2007 Erhard Krausen joined abakus solar AG as Chief Technology Officer responsible for production and technology.

Frank Polhaus (40), Dipl.-Ing. electrical engineering, CSO

FPAfter his studies of electrical engineering at Aachen University of Technology (RWTH-Aachen) and at Imperial College London, Frank was working in the wind turbine industry for five years. He began working as sales engineer for former Micon from Denmark in Germany and Benelux to later change into a position as area sales manager for the UK and Ireland with Nordex wind turbines. Under the framework of a
management developing program he continued his career for 4 years in the Dutch Philips group, first as a technical purchaser developing suppliers in eastern Europe, later as manager of a key-account in the semiconductor sales division. In a subsequent step Frank held the position of head of sales, directing a team of 17 sales engineers in the US fortune 500 company AVNET, a leading semiconductor distribution business. In 2004 Frank returned to the renewable energy business as an independent sales representative for abakus, servicing prospects and clients in southern Germany and Spain. Frank is also managing director of abakus‘ Spanish subsidiary A2+ sistemas fotovoltaicos S.L. which was co-founded by Frank. As of September 1, 2007 Frank is Chief Sales Officer of abakus solar AG, responsible for Sales and Marketing.

Stefan Rentmeister (42), Dipl.-Ing. (FH) mechanical engineering

SRAfter finishing an apprenticeship as engine fitter and a degree in mechanical engineering specialising in energy and environment technology at Technical University Aachen/Dpt. Jülich, Stefan first joined a business consultancy focused on energy and environmental subjects. In 1995 Stefan co-founded abakus and has since been one of its managing directors. Stefan has managed the photovoltaic projects „Solarsiedlung Gelsenkirchen“ and „Veterinäruntersuchungsamt Krefeld“. Stefan has developed abakus’ wholesale business with photovoltaic components and integrated systems, including all related service and logistics matters. As of September 1, 2007 Stefan Rentmeister is a managing director of abakus solar AG and is responsible for the business segment PV-Systems.

Roland Wigger (40), Attorney-at-Law

RWAfter graduating from the University of Cologne School of Law in 1993 and completing his second state examination in 1996 Roland Wigger commenced his professional life at Düsseldorf based WestLB AG in various functions. At WestLB‘s Legal Department Roland was involved mainly in project finance transactions (also in the field of energy financings), in the structuring of private equity and venture
capital funds as well as in international mergers & acquisition transaction. Roland broadened his scope of experience in these areas when he worked for the Legal Department of WestLB‘s New York Branch from 2000 to 2002. As of February 2002 Roland took on a management position at the Corporate management department of WestAM, the institutional asset management business division of WestLB. From April 2006 until August 2006 Roland Wigger was Deputy Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel and Global Head of Corporate management at WestLB Mellon Asset management, a 50/50 Joint Venture of WestLB AG and Mellon Financial Corporation in the area of asset management. After a one year paternity leave Roland Wigger joined abakus solar AG on September 1, 2007 as board member responsible for PVInvestment & Law.
